CROSS LAMINATED TIMBER COMES TO TEXAS!
Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) has been called the world's most advanced building material. Equitable Green Group is proud to be the first company to bring this exciting product to Texas. Read on to find out more about how CLT can change the future of green building.
CLT structures are quick and easy to build
Our crew of 3 men assembled the building in the video below in only 2 days. After only 48 hours of work, we were able to begin the interior finish of the building. Compare this with a traditional structure of this size, which would need several weeks to complete. CLT eliminates the need for drywall and paint, and the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC happens on the outside of the structure.
CLT is an environmentally conscious choice
Engineered wood has a very low carbon footprint. Wood is a renewable resource and it functions as a carbon sink. CLT, in turn, sequesters carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, whereas steel and concrete generate carbon dioxide during production. CLT panels can also incorporate knotty, oddly shaped wood pieces that traditional wood manufacturing will reject, making for far less waste.
CLT is fire resistant, earthquake resistant, and STRONG
CLT is an engineered wood product, and is made by assembling layers of parallel beams on top of one another perpendicularly, then adhering them together with glue. The final product is a thick wood panel that is immensely strong in two directions. The walls are structurally strong, and the panels are much more lightweight than steel or concrete. U.S. fire tests prove these thick panels to be incredibly fire resistant, CLT structures also have multiple load paths, which means that they can withstand or exceed the most demanding seismic design requirements.
CLT is already used around the world
CLT buildings of up to 10 stories are already being built around the world from Australia, to Canada, to Europe, to Taiwan. While CLT is new to North America, it is compliant with all building codes. We have had no problem using this product here in Austin!
